About Panchganga Ghat

Panchganga Ghat is one of the five most sacred bathing tirtha sites of Varanasi. Hindu tradition holds that five holy rivers — Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati, Kirana, and Dhutpapa — meet invisibly at this sacred point. The towering Dharahara Mosque (Madhav Rao Scindia Mosque) crowns the cliff above.

Spiritual & Historical Significance

Renowned as the spiritual home of sant Kabir and saint-poet Ramananda. During the holy month of Kartik, thousands of oil lamps (Akash Deep) are suspended in wicker baskets on high bamboo poles.

Boat Ride & River Access

Located in the northern stretch of ghats, accessible by private boat from Dashashwamedh or Raj Ghat.

Insider Travel Tips

  • Visit during Dev Deepawali to witness the ghat illuminated by thousands of earthen diyas and sky lanterns.
